Qualities Of A Good Mother

10 Important Qualities  Of  A Good Mother

  1. Be Attentive to Your Baby's Needs

Some basic things you can do for your newborns are:

  • Be attentive to your baby and his needs.
  • Be kind to your baby.
  • Feed your baby with breast milk or formula milk adequately & frequently.
  • Provide your baby with a happy and stable environment.
  • Give your baby plenty of sleep.
  • Do not carry him, pile up, or otherwise place your baby down, especially if he cannot support his head.
  1. Teach Your Child to be Human:

“Only mothers can think of the future because they give birth to it in their children.” – Maxim Gorky.

Today’s child is the parent of the future. The future of our society is looking expectantly at today’s children. Morality & ethics make one’s character. This character decides the fate of the future world. Being the first teacher of children, parents especially a mother has a great role in this respect. A child spends most of his time with his mom. The life lessons which he gets from his mother leave a deep imprint on his character which decides which type of person he will be in the future. So, a good mother must teach her child about ethics & morality.

  1. Love has no alternative for your child:

“The best medicine in the world is a mother’s kiss.”- Anonymous

Love your children as much as possible. Up to 5 years of age, a child should be set free. From 5-15 years age period put restrictions as dos & don’ts do form. After 15 onwards, be a good friend with your son/daughter so that they can share everything with you without hesitation. Keep in mind that teenagers are made to make blunders because they lack experience; so accompany them with a loving attitude & tell them that you are always beside him/her. Only blaming your child for every small thing may cause him/her to be depressed, so stop blaming & start loving.

  1. Be a Role Model to Your Child:

“All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” –Abraham Lincoln

A good mother must be a role model for her children. Because you are the person your child communicates first with, you are the idol before him to copy, as the children are prone to copy others. So, it is your first duty to uphold in yourself the human qualities like – politeness, honesty, truthfulness, caring, sympathy, etc. which will make you an ideal person for your child to copy. Thus you can develop the personality of your child.

  1. Don’t make your child insecure:

“A mother’s arms are more comforting than anyone else’s.” – Princess Diana

No one can take the place of a good mother. You are the most secure shelter for your child. For a child, his mother’s lap is as peaceful a place as a temple or church. But in today’s busy life, mothers hire maids to look after their children & leave for their jobs. This is a wrong step because those maids nurse those children to do their duty; they are like mothers but not mothers in the original.

Sometimes some cases have been reported in dailies where it is seen that children have been treated wrongly by their maids. When we don’t keep our valuable jewelry in a stranger’s custody then how can we give all access to our life's most valuable children to others? Is it not diminishing the security of our children?

  1. Be Supportive to the Little Hearts:

“Every child is an artist.” –Pablo Picasso

When children cross the age of 5, they take the venture to do many things like opening the parts of toys, drawing on the walls, tearing copy pages & customize those paper in making flowers, boats or birds, etc. these actions may be disgusting apparently, but these have a long term effect on them to be creative.

So, being a good mother you must be supportive of such kinds of activities & encourage them to make DIY items by providing the required materials.

  1. Music for Baby:

Music is a wonderful way to soothe, pacify, and entertain your baby. You need to find the right kind of music for your baby. Although parents generally like classical music, their children may have choices like:

Dance music, heavy metal, dance/house music, reggae, jazz, rock, country, etc.

With that being said, there are certain genres that babies love. Boogie-Woogie music tends to be calming when Rhythmic music is fantastic for strengthening & developing your baby’s dancer’s skills.

  1. Hug Your Baby:

“The child is the beauty of God present in the world, that greatest gift to a family.” –Mother Teresa

Hug your baby as much as you can!

You can also, talk to your baby and make sure they’re fine and thanked them for breastfeeding your baby. You’ll deal with that baby’s emotions and feelings much easier than most moms do.

  1. Breastfeeding is the Best Feeding:

Keep on the healthy practice of breastfeeding. This practice is one of the best qualities of a good mother. Because it is the purest food for your child. Experts say that breast milk contains antibodies that protect against many childhood illnesses, it provides all nutrients & energy a child needs in its early stage; to make a child strong in intelligence breastfeeding plays a great role. And women who practice breastfeeding have a low risk of breast & ovarian cancer.

So, breastfeeding is useful for both the child & the mother. But few mothers show apathy to giving their children this precious thing (breast milk), because they think that it can cause loosening of their breasts & they will lose confidence in their bodies. This is a bad practice one should avoid. It is possible to maintain your body if you regularly breastfeed your baby.

  1. Be Patient:

Patience is one of the important qualities of a good mother. Anyone who has ever had a newborn at home knows about the many responsibilities that come with baby care. It is exhausting, tiring & can get frustrating, especially during the first 12 months after born. So, be patient while caring for your child, and don’t be frustrated with your child, otherwise, your frustration will go into your child through breast milk.

If you are depressed with the low supply of your breast milk, then don’t stop breastfeeding; the more you will feed your child the more will the flow in your milk. So, tackle all the hardships with intense patience.

I hope all the mothers will be benefited from this discussion. I do all wishes to all the mothers of this world for their great contribution to society.

Lastly, I would like to end with a poem dedicated to motherhood:

“Your arms were always open when I needed a hug.
Your heart understood when I needed a friend.
Your gentle eyes were stern when I needed a lesson.
Your strength and love have guided me and given me wings to fly.”

— Sarah Malin.
