Stop blaming others

There lived a scholarly person in a village. His name was Srikanta Sharma. He was the priest of the village temple. He lived in a spacious cottage nearby the temple. There was a huge garden in front of his cottage. Srikanta owned that garden. He was fond of gardening, so he decorated his loving garden with various kinds of fruit & flower plants. In the flowering season, the view of that garden could easily attract the attention of strangers. People praised heartily the job Srikanta had done with his garden. Srikanta would feel proud hearing the admiration of that garden. The time he would get after his daily business in the temple, he would work in his garden. That garden was his all.

One day he was out of the station for an urgent piece of work. By this time a cow of his neighbor appeared there & as the entrance of the garden was not locked properly, it entered into the garden & ate all the saplings of flower & mango plant which were of rare varieties & recently planted. After the work was over, Srikanta returned to his cottage & surprised to see that the main gate of his garden was opened wide. As he entered his house premises he spotted that cow chewing his loving plants; this scene was so embarrassing to him & seeing that unexpected happening he became too much angry with the cow, he couldn’t control over his anger & began to beat the cow with a block of heavy wood. By the repeated blow the cow instantly died on the spot. A village boy witnessed the whole episode with his own eyes.

The news that Srikanta had beaten a cow to death spread all over the village immediately. The whole village came to the spot within half an hour. The owner, who was looking for his cow here & there, also came there with the crowd & recognised his cow as the victim of that incident. All villagers were furious over the killing of an innocent animal. They showed their deep contempt for the senseless act of Srikanta. The owner of the cow broke into tears and demanded Srikanta for proper compensation.

The main culprit, Srikanta didn’t show any regret for what had taken place in his garden. He was a learned person in religious scriptures, so he took shelter from scripture knowledge. He calmly in a clever manner said to the gathering, “All of you are making a big mistake. I have not done this. My hands have executed this action. Do you know who is the deity of our hands? It is none but god Indra who conducts the action of our hands. So all the blames must be upon god Indra, he is the guilty me not.”

Hearings that strong argument, all illiterate villagers became silent; they thought being a scholarly person Srikanta was talking right & slowly they disappeared. Their innocent minds couldn’t catch the cleverness of Srikanta.  A cruel clever sign of laughter appeared on the face of Srikanta. He felt relieved after befooling the villagers. But god Indra was not unaware of the deception Srikanta had made. God Indra was very much offended by that blaming & resolved to teach a lesson to Srikanta.

The next day Indra descended to this earth & took the disguise of a common village person to visit Srikanta. Srikanta was busy in his garden when Indra in disguise appeared before him as a stranger.

“Wow, what beautiful is the garden!” – Indra exclaimed to him.

Hearing the voice Srikanta stood up & warmly greeted the stranger, “Please come, sir.”

“Of course. Thanking you for your word. Believe sir I have never seen such kind of beautiful garden ever in my life. And the cottage is also admirable here.” – Indra.

“Thank you for your comment sir.”- Srikanta

“Who is the owner of this cottage & the garden sir?” – Indra asked eagerly.

With a proud tone, Srikanta replied, “I am the owner of all these.”

“But who has decorated this garden in the such heavenly manner?” – Indra.

“I am the same person who has decorated it. All credits go to me only sir.” – Again smilingly he added.

Then god Indra kept his argument before that scholar. He said politely, “Yes all credits go to you only because you have done this. But can you answer why you give discredit to the god Indra when you killed the innocent cow? When there is any good, you take the whole credit, but if there is any wrong or bad you impose the discredit to the god, is it right?”

Srikanta was surprised by Indra’s argument; no word came to his mouth to dismiss the argument. He realized his wrongdoing, & felt ashamed.

With a soft tone, he said, “You are right sir. Really, I have been a very selfish & cruel fellow. I do regret what I have done. You have opened my eyes. Thank you, sir.”

Thus a blameable mind changes into a regretful mind.

We human beings always put blame on others for any kind of discomfort or misfortune of ours. By pointing fingers at others we want to shield our own failure, making those persons humiliated who face the blaming. This practice is harmful to a society where none respects others. This attitude spoils one’s belief in another resulting in the natural bonding of this society being fragmented. One should check one’s such a kind of temperament not for the whole society but for the well-being of oneself, otherwise, she/he could never rectify herself/himself. We generally forget that if we point our index fingers to anyone then the other three fingers are pointed to us also. We should practice simplicity & purity [to get a fine story about simplicity & purity click on this link: https://tipsonhappylife.blogspot.com/2022/08/purity-simplicity-win-at-last.html] to get rid of this disposition.

We should take lessons from our failures to make us successful in our lives; only blaming others may be a temporary ointment on our failure-like-injury but in long run, the consequences of blaming will be proved shameful to us. Be happy with a positive mind by accepting reality.
