Childhood in the Pressure Cooker

The moment when a married couple first hears the crying of their new born baby is the happiest moment in their lives. A golden memory is added to the page of their life history forever. They are now parents. Their whole thinking encircles around the baby. They weave many colorful dreams for their child. Their unfulfilled wishes begin to knock at the door to be accomplished through this little life. Much speculations & calculations begin on the future doings for their new guest. The more time passes the more complex thoughts engulf their minds.

At a certain age, the child is admitted to the school, the parents pay utmost effort for their beloved child to have the finest quality education. They as per the present popular thought, try to avail any English medium school education. No doubt those institutions charge high cost from the parents & deliver much pressure on the students. Today’s education system teaches to gather more & more GK irrespective of the judgment whether the students really need them or not. As a result the little students have now more books to carry & less time to play. Besides the school hours the students have discovered another school - that is their own home. Here the teachers are their mom & dad.

Tinu is such kind a fifteen years old boy; he studies in an English medium school in seventh standard. He is a busy member in the family. Tuition, home task, coaching class, school & books are his world; hardly a little time he gets for himself. Tinu is a student of medium intellect. He loves playing badminton very much, but can have a little time to follow his liking. Tinu’s parents are very strict about his studies, they want to see him reading books or doing homework all time. They discourage Tinu to go outside & play with his friends even no friend of Tinu is allowed to visit to home & play with him . This all study & no play make his life miserable. Once Tinu requested his father to take part in the school’s annual sports last year, but his father forbade him saying that he should better to concentrate in the coming final exam as his marks in science section was no well in the last test. Tinu became disappointed & from that time he has never requested his dad to spare him for badminton.

Tinu’s mother dreams that her son will be a famous doctor whereas Tinu’s father wants his son to become a chartered accountant. Tinu is surprised thinking that none of his parents has ever asked Tinu about his choice. They have no news of Tinu’s mind. To be a badminton player & take part in the Olympics is his long cherished dream. But all the roads to achieve the goal are totally blocked by his parents. The final blow he got that day when he was playing with his badminton racket in his room & his father came there suddenly & snatching the racket from his hand threw outside their boundary wall. Tears slowly come down the cheeks of Tinu.

This incident shocked Tinu too much. Now-a-days he often becomes sick, he has been totally indifferent to his study & taking food, cannot remind his lessons properly. It has been an everyday case that the school teachers rebuke him for irregularity of doing home work. For the weakness & day by day deteriorating health his parents have consulted the doctor, medication is being followed properly. But all efforts end after few months.  The smile is lost forever from the dreaming face of Tinu. A shinning bud falls down untimely before it spreads its petals.

These days’ parents want to make their child all exceptional, just like a superman. They don’t teach them human values & ethics which they lack in school lessons. Their all focus is centered on the future earning capability of their son/daughter, but they forget that the base of every human being is human values; as a result a characterless generation is growing who knows money only & always hankers after wealth. Parensts think that the more books the child will read the more knowledge he will get, & of course it will help him to secure good score which will be beneficial for bright future (Money!). This thought inspires them to increase pressure more on their kids & the result is Tinu.

So parents please don’t make your beloved one’s life miserable by seizing him into the pressure cooker of competition, let him grow freely like a plant & guard him like a gardener, be his friend so that he never hesitates to share his words with you. Scores in mark sheet may be a factor for career, but for a happy peaceful life you need love & affection. A high score does not promise a high peace in life; peace is not measurable in terms of money. So friends be open to your children & always be happy.
